Council backs up gates with railings in Ruislip

Council backs up gates with railings in Ruislip

30/09/2009

People in Ruislip who took a community-spirited approach to discouraging vandals by using their own money to install alley gates have been given a helping hand from their local authority.

Hillingdon Council has pitched in to improve security in the area by installing 108 metres of railings to stop antisocial youths from gathering in Clifford Road, the Uxbridge Gazette reports.

Local people had complained of illegal car racing and engines being revved in an area close to the garage, but that looks set to come to a stop as only residents with keys now have access to the area.

The scheme was originally suggested by crime prevention officers in the area, while the funding was donated from the council's ward budget initiative and another fund.

In August, Hillingdon Council joined forces with Transport for London to provide funding for a £250,000 project to regenerate Uxbridge town centre, which may include the installation of new railings.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19388766-ADNFCR
