Residents of Croydon have voiced their concerns about the removal of a set of safety railings near a busy road.
Railings at the junction of Purley Way and Waddon Park Avenue have been taken down after Transport for London chiefs claimed they offered no safety benefit, Croydon Today reports.
However, worried parents who have seen a number of accidents at the junction say the barriers are essential for protecting children on their walk to school.
"You can see where the vehicles have buckled the railings - if the guard rails weren't there they could easily hit someone," local mother Emily Anderson told the paper.
"Just because there hasn't been a serious accident doesn't mean there won't ever be one - I can't understand their logic."
It follows reports in the Herne Bay Times that emergency railings have been erected on the roof of Kings Hall after a number of incidents, at least one of which caused serious injury.
