Gates and railings 'add value to a property'

Gates and railings 'add value to a property'

22/10/2009

Railings are an essential part of a well-kept property and can add value to them, according to a recent article in the Times.

Cast-iron railings and a matching gate feature in a list of the top ten most desirable features for suburban London terraced houses, along with chrome door furniture and a neat hedge.

"Victorian houses originally had coloured railings, but now, nothing other than black will do," the article states, adding that many of the original railings that adorned Victorian properties were melted down for the war effort.

Householders should not be afraid to spend money improving the look of their home if they want to make it attractive to potential buyers, as Property Vision's Richard Marsh also states.

"Buyers like it because they think they won't have to do any work," the article reports him as saying.

Research by Saga recently found that over-50s are more likely to spend money on garden features such as gates and railings than any other group.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19424992-ADNFCR
