Council disagreement extends gates wait in Bootle

Council disagreement extends gates wait in Bootle

27/10/2009

Some residents of Bootle have been made to wait a little longer before they have alley gates installed to protect them from antisocial behaviour.

This is because they live on Olivia Street on the very edge of Sefton, meaning there is some disagreement over which local authority is responsible for the area, the Bootle Times reports.

People living on Olivia Street are desperate to have the alley gates installed due to problems with violence and intimidation in the area.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said the authority is trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

"We have worked closely with Liverpool City Council to resolve the legal issues and if the gating order application is confirmed, the alleygates should be in place in a few months," he told the paper.

The news comes soon after reports in Gazette Live that residents in a Middlesbrough ward are being urged by one councillor to make an alley gating scheme a success.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19429226-ADNFCR
