Garden gates presented to care organisation

A special set of garden gates commemorating the lives of terminally ill children has been presented to parents after a tragic series of events.

Supports of Brierfield-based Caring Today were given the gates as a souvenir of a memorial garden, which has been demolished following health and safety fears, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.

The garden, which costs £50,000, contained the hand and footprints of children helped by Caring Today, which provides care for dying and disabled children in the area.

Sadly, it became a target for vandals and was quickly deemed a health and safety concern after it was established in 2007, leading council officials to take the decision to destroy it.

"As requested by Caring Today we have returned the garden gates, with their crest on it, to them," parks manager Colin Patten told the paper.

It follows reports in the Ashbourne News Telegraph that this year's Festival of Remembrance will see the Royal British Legion make its way to the town's memorial gates in Cokayne Avenue.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19431683-ADNFCR
