Plans to give the village of Old Colwyn in North Wales a Victorian makeover, including creating a set of unique iron gateways, may be funded by the North Wales Coastal Strategic Regeneration Area.
Councillors want to celebrate the village's Victorian heritage with wrought iron gates, grants to give shops a Victorian theme and uniform street furniture including street lights, railings and signs, the North Wales Pioneer reports.
"This could have a huge effect on Old Colwyn," councillor Brian Cossey told the paper.
"It would be criminal to miss out on this opportunity, we would be failing in our duty if we missed out."
Final approval for the plans will need to be granted by the Welsh Assembly Government by March 2010, but if the green light is given, the funding will come from the North Wales Costal Strategic Regeneration Area.
It follows reports in the Burnley Citizen that the King George V playing fields in Colne have been earmarked for an improvement project which will see new railings added.
