Local authorities in Wells have been surprised and upset by the removal of a flower bed and its attendant railings.
Mendip District Council was given the flower bed as a present by its contractor Quadron Services several years ago, which was supplemented with wrought iron railings funding by the authority, This is Somerset reports.
"This week we suddenly discovered that they had taken the beds away," councillor Maureen Brendon told the paper.
"They completely ignored the fact that they were asked to tell us if there were any issues with the flower bed, and they took our railings away as well."
Councillors were also dismayed that the first they heard about Quadron's plans to remove the flower bed and railings were when they read about it in the Wells Journal.
A writer on the Londonist blog was recently surprised by the disappearance of street railings from her London borough, which turned out to be for health and safety reasons.
