Islington park 'needs gates, not signs'

05/11/2009

Authorities in Islington have spent hundreds of pounds on signs telling visitors that a local park shuts at dusk - despite the fact that the park has no railings or gates.

Laycock Green has been provided with signs instructing people that the park remains open from 8am until 8pm, but Islington Council has yet to provide any lockable gates, the Islington Gazette reports.

The move has puzzled local people, who say the signs will do nothing to stop teenagers hanging around there after dark.

Resident Lindsey Mitchell told the paper: "The signs seem pointless. There are no gates here so you can come here any time.

"I know the trees have been spoiled by kids with dogs but these signs aren't going to stop that."

It follows reports in the Crosby Herald that people in Litherland are calling for new gates to stop yobs from destroying its flower beds.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19444599-ADNFCR
